Four year college degree with major in Medical Technology or a BS in Basic Science with experience to qualify for ASCP Technologist level certification is required.  ASCP eligibility required for one of the following:  MT, BB, C, H, M, or MP.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Microbiology is seeking a Med Tech I to join our Team! Follows procedures and performs clinical testing within regulatory guidelines.

We are a full service Bacteriology, Mycology, Mycobacteriology and Virology department. We perform various susceptibility methods and cultures. Instrumentation includes Bactec 9240&apos;s, MGIT 960, Vitek legacy, and BD?s PHOENIX. Rapid tests include: Rapid Strep A, RSV EIA. We follow CLIA, CLSI, CAP, and JCAHO requirements.


Educational Requirements:
Bachelor?s degree or equivalent as within CLIA for high complexity testing

License/Registration/Certification:
MT (ASCP) or CLS (NCA) or equivalent as defined within CLIA

        <description>Job Description: 
The Medical Technologist is responsible for the prompt, efficient and accurate performance, validation and reporting of laboratory test results, which are utilized for the purpose of prognosis, diagnosis, treatment and research. Under the direct supervision of the Technical Director, Section Head, Assistant Section Head, Shift Supervisor or designee, is responsible for the assigned shift as scheduled. This position is Monday - Friday, 11:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m., and rotating every 6th weekend.  (KED).
 
Job Qualifications: 
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED
Bachelor&apos;s degree or completion of medical technology program or equivalent in concordance with current federal and state regulations required.
 
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Medical Technologist entry level skills obtained through clinical rotations are required.
 
CREDENTIALS REQUIRED BY LAW OR REGULATORY BODY: (Primary source verification required)
Tennessee licensure as Medical Technologist as a Generalist or Specialist in assigned laboratory section required. Eligibility requirements will be in compliance with current State of Tennessee, Division of Health Related Boards.

Works under the general supervision of the appropriate Technical Specialist(s) and under the administrative direction of the appropriate Supervisor or Lab Operations Director. Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of the Geisinger Health System in its efforts to provide quality patient care and patient satisfaction.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Demonstrated good organizational skills and effective communication skills. 

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Bachelor&apos;s degree in Medical Technology required or three years of college and completion of one year CAHEA accredited school of medical technology required, or Bachelor of Science in chemistry, biological or physical sciences plus one year of experience/training in the specialty/subspecialty in which the tests are performed required, or three years of accredited college course work and completion date in compliance with Pennsylvania clinical laboratory regulation required, or performed duties of a medical technologist prior to June 14, 1974, and with continuous (full- or part-time) pertinent, clinically related laboratory employment since that date required, or passed proficiency exam given by the HHS (formerly HEW) with designation as a clinical laboratory technologist required. Participates in educational activities to maintain current knowledge in the field. Up to three months on the job to reach acceptable level of performance required. 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Possible exposure to infection from disease bearing specimens. Exposure to odorous chemicals and specimens. Must comply with applicable safety procedures. Physical demands: Standing: remaining on one&apos;s feet in an upright position. Handling: Seizing, holding, grasping, or otherwise working with hands. Fingering: Picking, pinching, or otherwise working with fingers. Vision requirements: Able to pass standardized color vision test. Protective Equipment (as required by procedure performed): Eye protection, face protection, lab coat, non-sterile medical gloves.
