The state’s top biotechnology lobbying group held a fund-raiser yesterday for Rep. Michael Rodrigues, a Westport Democrat who tried to block a state law that requires drug firms and medical device makers to disclose payments to doctors for endorsing their products.
“He stood strongly in support of our position against disclosing vital information regarding health-care professionals and their interaction with our member companies,” Massachusetts Biotechnology Council President Robert Coughlin wrote in the fund-raiser’s e-mailed invitation.
“To refer to Michael as a champion of the life sciences industry, is certainly an understatement,” wrote Coughlin, a former state representative from Dedham.Read Full Article

Biotech firms would bring good, clean, high-paying jobs to the Neponset Valley, but the region’s towns need to make it easier for businesses to come here, according to state biotech leaders.
Walpole officials, however, are wary of the message as they get ready to tackle biotech issues in their use table rewrite – a section of the town’s zoning bylaws that determines what businesses are and are not allowed in Walpole.
In a presentation local Selectmen called a “sales pitch,” Massachusetts Biotechnology Council President Robert Coughlin spoke to a gathering of municipal officials and industry representatives including Walpole higher-ups last Wednesday at the Four Points Sheraton in Norwood.Read Full Article
